Colin Bridgerton is an idiot

and so are most of the Bridgerton kids.

In the latest season of Bridgerton, Colin Bridgerton has taken some pickup artist lessons abroad and become a bit of a lady’s man — eliciting quite an ick factor.

That said, this season we also see Colin go from having sex with two prostitutes at a time to becoming completely enamoured with his longtime friend Penelope Featherington.

And in one pivotal scene, Penelope bandages Colin’s hand after he does something so completely idiotic that it made me question the entire show.

At one point in the third (?) episode, Penelope gets caught reading Colin’s stalkier diary where he details touching women in Paris.

Colin, understandably (not, really), gets infuriated when he’s caught being a rake and proceeds to lambast Penelope from reading his weird inner thoughts.

In a fit of embarrassed rage, Colin knocks over some kind of lamp and it smashes on the floor.

Then this guy decides he’s going to clean up the mess he’s caused by picking up the shards one-by-one.

There are likely hundreds if not thousands of shards, and he’s using his finger tips to pick them up.

And he then, somehow, manages to cut himself in the middle of his palm like Jesus Christ and thus ensues a romantic moment where Penelope, the only mildly competent person in the room, very lightly bandages his cut.

Back in the Regency era, which is when this show takes place, knowledge about germs and bacteria were in its infancy. A cut like the one Colin just received could have been deadly if left untreated and back then they’d likely treat it by letting out more blood from your hand.

All’s I’m saying is that I watched this scene and just thought, “Man, Colin Bridgerton has never used or even seen a broom in his entire life.” These privileged, ridiculous people aren’t street smart enough to know that you shouldn’t pick up shards of broken glass with your hands, so why the heck do they get entrusted with the lives of their estate farmers and tenants.

And the rest of the family is the exact same. Daphne and Anthony have no idea how to light a stove, so they end up wasting two whole glasses of milk in this scene.

What gets me here is that they don’t even put the milk back where they found it.

Anyway, a short post. Still enjoying this season. I don’t believe the press videos where the cast is saying that Colin is meant to be a bit yucky. I think that’s just bad acting.
